New Crochet

I've been playing with my stash of Red Heart Super Saver yarn and this Summer Sling Tote pattern. It calls for cotton yarn but of course I can't find any in colors I like. I made some changes to the pattern, less rows to make it smaller, shorter handle and shaping in the edge, in alternating rows of solid & variegated yarns & am really happy with the result. My next step is to make the new purse pattern with recycled sari silk alternated with suede yarn. I think that will be a nice combination & I'll post some pictures of it in the coming week.

While reading only about yarn & bags today I stumbled upon a blog by another San Diego artist Barb Lawrence. She has tons of great links and resources, just one example is a link explaining how to reinforce handmade bags.

monster crochet: Popular Culture on a Wing

monster crochet: Popular Culture on a Wing

You have to check out this Hitchcock inspired hat & shawl set created by my crocheting artist hero Ladylinoleum .

My current WIP is a white scarf for myself, very vanilla and tame after visting my hero's blog today, but at least I know I'll wear it. It's white simply soft yarn in a shell pattern. Other WIP are paintings that I am avoiding working on by doing my crochet and reading paperback novels instead.

Last week I read Vanish and Life Support by Tess Gerritsen and Brimstone by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child

Pattern for Shawl

sage shawl, originally uploaded by kimwyatt4000.

I'm finally getting around to posting the links to some of the patterns I used. That pattern I used for this shawl is the Zig Zag Shells Stole that cames from CROCHET bythehook's patterns by Dot.

I love her patterns.
